Chemical Reactions via Twin Screw Extrusion
Reactive extrusion describes a special process in extrusion technology in which individual components are bonded by a chemical reaction. Extrusion systems from Coperion are particularly suitable for the reactive extrusion process due to the excellent product handling and mixing properties.
Coperion has already developed many ZSK extrusion systems for a wide variety of chemical reaction processes. The continuous process ensures consistent, outstanding product quality. It can be reproduced at any time and only subjects the raw materials to low thermal stress.
The range of viscosities is very broad. Even highly viscous products, some of which may cause problems in the batch process, can be processed without difficulty using the ZSK extruder. A reliable scale-up from laboratory to production scale is possible at any time with the ZSK twin screw extruder.
Typical chemical reaction processes which have already been realized on ZSK twin screw extruders are PMMA, Polyamide 6 and TPU.
